Each month we cast the spotlight on a different team member. Rockfish is a people-powered digital innovation agency that is made up of amazing thinkers, doers, hackers, creators, growers, communicators – the list is long. Our diversity of personal and professional backgrounds and talents is among our greatest features, if we’re being candid… and we always are. Enjoy!
How long have you been with Rockfish?
JC: 3 years
Which business executive or industry professional do you admire most? Why?
JC: Anil Dash, Paul Ford, Erika Hall, Kevin Kelly, Karen McGrane, Tim O’Reilly, Luke Wroblewski.
What’s the best professional advice you’ve ever received?
JC: Federico Fellini put a note on his camera while filming 8 ½ that read “Ricordati chè un film comico” — “Remember, this is a comedy.” I think about that a lot.
The most rewarding part of my job is:
JC: Feeling like I’m helping. Sounds childish, but there we are.
Which words of wisdom would you share with your 18-year-old self?
JC: Think more, worry less. Get plenty of sleep.
I am most passionate about:
JC: Passion is one of those words that makes me feel squirmy. But, I’ve noticed that I get grumpy if I haven’t ridden my motorcycle in a while.
The one thing I can’t live without is:
JC: Family. My wife changed my life, kids changed it again. Keeps getting better.
One skill I’d love to learn is:
JC: I read an article about a guy in his late 30s who trained himself to dunk, that’d be cool. Not a chance, though. Being the kind of person who enjoys cleaning the house, that’s more useful.
If you could have a fantasy dinner party, which 3 people (living or dead) would you invite?
JC: Let’s keep it to the living, if only to avoid the smell. Ta-nehisi Coates, Eric Foner, and James McPherson would have a lot to say on how history has shaped our present moment.
Finding the answer to any problem starts with:
JC: Getting friendly with them.
